Augustus "Gus" Willis is a native of Craven County, graduating from New Bern High School, then attending East Carolina University, where he graduated summa cum laud (with highest honors) in Finance, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor.
He has served in several roles as an attorney including a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of N.C., Counsel to the N.C. General Assembly, and in his current position as an Assistant District Attorney for Prosecutorial District 4 (Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico Counties).
Since 2018, he has prosecuted felony offenses in our district's Superior Courts. As a federal prosecutor he was recognized for work on the U.S. Attorney's Office Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force 2014 Case of the Year, and more recently as one of East Carolina University's 40 Under 40 Alumni.
Gus served on the executive committee of the Craven County Republican Party and is past president of the Craven County Republican Men’s Club. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for United Way of Coastal Carolina and the Board of Trustees for Craven Community College. He lives in New Bern with his wife and two boys.
The East Carolina Republican Women have a regular meeting on the second Thursday of each month.
